About Cambridge

Cambridge is a city located approximately 1.5 - 2 hours south from Auckland. Cambridge is a welcoming community with plenty of wonderful things to do, spectacular events to enjoy, and beautiful places to visit.  A majestic tree-lined town that sits at the heart of one of New Zealand’s rural settings. New Zealand's longest river, the Waikato River, runs right through Cambridge. There are many, beautiful walks that you can do along the river. Cambridge is close to Hamilton, which is New Zealand's largest inland city with an estimated population of 165,400 (2017). Hamilton is an ethnically diverse and fairly young hub, which is vibrant and bursting with restaurants, nightlife, parks, leisure centres, sports venues and family-friendly activities.

How to get to Cambridge - From Auckland International Airport

How to get around in Cambridge

Waikato Tourism Hot Spots

Hamilton is a fantastic base city to live in because it is so centrally located in the North Island. Many families like to go on day trips during the weekend to visit some of New Zealand's best tourist hotspots. Below are a few "must visit", places around Hamilton.

The beautiful set from the Lord of The Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit is located in Matamata ( 45 minutes from Hamilton). Tours are available daily and special events happen every few months. A truly magical and beautiful place to visit, it is not to be missed!

Raglan is a stunning beach town approximately 45 minutes drive from Hamilton. It boasts famous "black sand" and attracts many professional surfers. There are some lovely unique shops to visit and delicious places to eat at. The harbour fish and chips are always a good option for lunch!

Hamilton Gardens
The Hamilton Gardens first opened in 1960, and it is Hamilton's biggest tourist hotspot. The Gardens span over 54 hectares and feature speciality collection gardens, a beautiful lake with cafe' overlooking, rose gardens, children playground and walkways down to the river. The Hamilton Gardens won the International Garden of the Year award in 2014.

Waitomo Caves

Waitomo is a 1-hour drive south from Hamilton and is famous for its extensive cave systems which are filled with thousands of glow worms! There are many different underground adventures you can participate in, including black water raftering, caving, abseiling and underground boat rides. There is also a Kiwi House where you will be able to see a real Kiwi bird!
