Enviroschools

The Enviroschools kaupapa is based on five guiding principles. We have been encouraged to integrate these five principles in all the learning and actions we undertake.

Our School Environment

We looked at our school environment. We drew maps of what we currently had and asked children to look at the good areas, the bad areas and areas we could improve upon.

We worked in pairs and then went around the classrooms talked about our school with them.

Some areas where we were already doing well were...

Some of the ideas where we could be doing better were.....

more water fountains
have less rubbish around the school - more rubbish bins were needed

Out and About

On Wednesday we went to Hamilton to visit the Hamilton Gardens. We especially looked at the sustainable gardens and the Maori gardens. They were fascinating. We saw chooks, bees, birds and fish and learnt how plants looked after each other.

We then visited St Joseph's Catholic School. They have turned an area behind the classrooms that was being wasted into a sustainable garden. They even have chickens. Perhaps we can do the same one day at our school.

We had a great day and came back with lots of ideas for our school and how our school can also work towards having a sustainable environment for everyone to enjoy.
